As this article is being written, the crews from Benchmark are diligently building a new flood control system on the campus of Westview Elementary School in Wood Dale, IL.  This project is being built using EPA funds and will alleviate flooding for tens of thousands of the city’s residents.  Just last week the project was toured by United States Senator Tammy Duckworth who commended the collaborative efforts of Wood Dale, Wood Dale School District 7, and Benchmark.  The central feature of the project is a subsurface stormwater detention system, comprised of almost 400 10’x10’ box culverts- each weighing close to 50,000 pounds.  The project will be built during the 10-week summer break period, thereby eliminating any disruptions to the continuing education of Westview’s young students.  We are proud to be part of a project that will improve the quality of life for so many people!
