The City of Chicago Department of Water Management provides over 1 billion gallons of potable water to residents of Chicago and 125 surrounding suburbs daily.  Their stated mission is to “provide the highest quality drinking water to the Chicago region…”  To do this they replace close to 100 miles of the city’s 4200 miles of water mains annually, with work being performed by both city crews and hired contractors.  The City recently awarded Benchmark with contracts to assist in the replacement of these mains throughout the city.  Benchmark and its MBE/WBE partners will be contractually tasked with replacement of over 60 miles of water main for the next 2 years.  The specific challenges associated with this project include coordination with various city agencies, individual job sites separated by miles of heavy traffic, and installation through a web of underground utilities.  Benchmark is up to the task!
