This project involved the reclamation and transformation of an 83 acre abandoned sand and gravel quarry into a light industrial business park. Benchmark provided construction management services for the site development and the offsite roadway improvements and its engineers worked with the owner and design engineer during the design phase to provide value engineering, budgeting and schedule input.
Prior to the earthwork operations the existing generally loose fill that had been placed in the quarry was dynamically compacted to provide needed bearing capacity for the proposed buildings. Benchmark managed the dynamic compaction operation as well as the earthwork, asphalt paving and site lighting subcontractors and self-performed the installation of all on site utilities and concrete paving. Over 300,000 CY of earthwork movement was completed and with over a 90 vertical foot elevation change within the site many best management practices were implemented to minimize and control soil erosion.
